Meghan Marion Glass of Blue Ash selected for Phi Beta Kappa honor society at Clemson University

2016 Apr 4

Meghan Marion Glass of Blue Ash has been selected for membership in the Clemson University chapter of Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society.

Glass is majoring in Secondary Education.

According to Jens Holley, secretary of the Clemson chapter, membership is offered to less than 10 percent of the eligible students who are selected because of their high scholarly achievement, broad cultural interests, good character and devotion to and participation in the liberal arts and sciences educational process.

Potential members must have completed 90 credit hours, have at least a 3.7 grade-point average in liberal arts and sciences classes and be vetted by other Phi Beta Kappa members in their colleges before being selected for membership.

Clemson's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa was awarded in 2006. The first class was inducted in 2007.

The university is among only about 10 percent - 286 - of the nation's colleges and universities that have Phi Beta Kappa chapters.

Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa has more than 600,000 members. It celebrates and advocates excellence in the humanities and liberal arts and sciences.

Phi Beta Kappa stands for freedom of inquiry and expression, disciplinary rigor, breadth of intellectual perspective, the cultivation of skills of deliberation and ethical reflection, the pursuit of wisdom, and the application of the fruits of scholarship and research in practical life.
