Davis White of Mount Pleasant Serving in 'Outstanding Air Force ROTC' Program in S.C. at Clemson

Davis White of Mount Pleasant is a member of the Clemson University Air Force ROTC detachment, which has been named "Outstanding Air Force ROTC program" in South Carolina.

It's the second year in a row Clemson's AFROTC Detachment 770 was selected for the award by the South Carolina Air Force Association.

White is a senior majoring in civil engineering.

The award is being presented at the Air Force Association state convention April 28.

Commanded by Col. James Riemens-Van Laare, an aerospace studies professor, Detachment 770 has proven itself year after year as one of the nation's top medium-sized AFROTC detachments in both the Southeast region and in South Carolina as noted by several prestigious awards: Right of Line, High Flight and Best in State.

Furthermore, Detachment 770 is nationally recognized for its dedication to generating quality leaders for the U.S. Air Force. On average it commissions 16-20 second lieutenants, and more than 80 percent who apply for rated positions as pilots or navigators receive them. Clemson AFROTC has a rich military heritage dating back to World War I.
